The nation’s serpentine landmass connects North and South America, providing a tropical mixing ground for species from both continents. The result is a biological treasure trove, earning Panama a spot on the roster of Earth’s mega-diverse countries. With 1,002 bird species recorded, Panama’s bird list exceeds that of Canada and the United States combined.

Join NRF on this 11-night adventure to immerse yourself in Panama’s “birdiest” habitats. We’ll explore the remote forests of eastern Panama, the lowlands of central Panama, and the foothills of western Panama. The abundance and variety of birds is staggering. Processions of toucans, parrots, antbirds, tanagers and other gaudy birds are a daily occurrence. Cameos from tree top wildlife are frequent. Monkeys (four species), sloths (two species), anteaters and porcupines are possibilities. Owls, potoos, kinkajous and olingos may be encountered during night outings.

This trip will be led by veteran tour leader, conservationist and NRF partner Craig Thompson.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://www.wisconservation.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Green-Honeycreeper-by-Canopy-Family.jpg” alt=”A green honeycreeper perched on a branch” title_text=”Green Honeycreeper By Canopy Family” align=”center” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Green Honeycreeper by Canopy Family

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” width=”100%” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Lodging

Canopy Camp: Located 4 hours east of Panama City, the Canopy Camp has eight African Safari-style tents – the perfect accommodation for sleeping in the rainforest.
